Day 6 of 19 – Belgrade City tour

It has rained most of today🤦🏻‍♀️

I don’t think I’ll be sorry to leave the hotel tomorrow. It’s not the best and certainly not 4 *

Anyway we had a guided tour and although it was gloomy it was quite nice. Not sure how many photos today!

Think this is the Partizan football stadium
Think he invented things!
Look my eraser works🤣
No idea what this commemorates

We went to the fortress

This is a monument dedicated to the French and I think it was a thank you because the French took many Serbians to France and supported them and educated them so that when they returned to Serbia they had a better life. I have no idea when this was. Sorry🤦🏻‍♀️
There was several things happening today one of which was a military display, as Michaela points out
Bullet holes
So ‘Living the Dream’ big holiday T shirt was out today not least because it’s the only sleeved one I’ve brought, coupled with commonwealth games coat🤣. Behind me is where the river Sava and Danube meet
I tried a panoramic photo
So this is Victor and he was built to commemorate the Serbian victory in the Balkans war. I have no idea why he is naked. Maybe it’s a virility thing🤣. Me Tarzan, you Jane🤷🏻‍♀️. All I do know is that some objected to a naked man being displayed in the centre so he was moved to his current location which is over looking where the Sava meets the Danube
Our group minus Sue
My lunch😊

So let me tell you about Sue which is actually Jasu. She is vegetarian and on the first night Nigel aka Johnny Vegas asked who was so they could get their right meals. Her omelette came much to her disgust at which she announced NO EGG. I did ask if she’d advised them she also didn’t eat eggs. They didn’t have any other options as they had no salad! So she had 2 puddings. I asked if she eats egg in cake. So the next night on the ship the staff didn’t get the memo (although I think the onus should be on her to advise from the beginning) because she was presented with chicken! At which she announced VEGETARIAN! They then came back with fish🤣. She ended up with a plate of that thin cheese that you get on hamburgers🤦🏻‍♀️. I suggested that maybe she should tell them beforehand and say that she also doesn’t eat eggs. She says that they should know🤷🏻‍♀️. I’ll be back later with more ditties.

As part of the city tour we thought we would go to Tito”s monument but we didn’t. Sue and I thought we could walk there although it did look a long way on the map. Interestingly it wasn’t highlighted on the map just where the tour guide indicated. We walked for 1.5 hours. At which point Sue kept trying to flag down cars and taxi’s. No one stopped. Whilst I was getting the help of an American lady Sue threw herself in front of a car which had a man and his 2 young sons in. He said he would take us as far as he was going so we ended up back at the far end of the city with a further 30 minutes walk. And we still hadn’t seen the monument 🤦🏻‍♀️. She told me tonight at dinner that we’d done 18,000 steps today🙄
