Day 9 of 10 – Etna πŸ˜Š

We’re praying that it doesn’t rain today!

Sooo back to the Mafia. Giovanni Falcone and Pablo Borsellino were prosecuting Magistrates. Falcone was famous for the Maxi trials, where there were 475 ish defendants. He sentenced over 300 of them. They were both assignated within a month of each other, by the Mafia, in 1972. Falcone was killed along with his wife and 3 body guards when bombs were planted under the road on the way from Palermo Airport. The Sicilian people were in uproar and instead of the Mafia regaining control the Sicilian people continued the fight to bring down the Mafia.

This mural is on the side of a building in Palermo. I missed it when we drove past on the coachπŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

The court house in Palermo was built especially for the Maxi trials

Etna…

Oddly I thought I was going to the very topπŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ. However, I did manage to go up 3 craters and the first one was a bit of a challenge for me and my tummyπŸ˜†

That pointy bit in the middle of the photo was where I walked up the steep slope

Then off for lunch😊

Anti pasti. The other course was pasta which was tasty but not worthy of a photo and more fruit!

I love being on my holibobs because it means I can have a wee drink in the afternoon! It’s raining this afternoon so I’m relaxing reading my book before lunch😊. Happy daysπŸ˜†
