Day 22 of 22 – summary

Sorry it’s taken me so long to do this. We started travelling back on Tuesday and I finally arrived home on Wednesday at 5.30 pm, totally exhausted. I’ve not gone back to work yet so at least I’m recovering.

Sooooo I stayed in 9 hotels!

Jose Antonio in Lima

Sonesta Posada Del Inc Yucay

Xima Cusco in Cusco

Hyatt Centric in Santiago

Cabanas Del Lago in Puerto Varas

Edelweiss in San Carlos de Bariloche

Pulitzer in Buenos Aires

Bourbon Cataratas in Iguassu

Windsor Excelsior in Rio de Janerio

I boarded a plane 11 times from start to finish😓

The best hotel room was the Hyatt Centric in Santiago however the best location was the Bourbon im Iguassu because of the hotel pool and hotel foyer. The worst room was the Xima Cusco because the bathroom was nasty and the layout was an atrium design so the rooms were all around the edge and the pan pipes live music just came up through the whole hotel. Not good when you have to be up at 5 am for your next flight.

I had money left over from 4 countries

There are no pandora shops in south America 😅

Because I forgot my straighteners I bought a heated brush at the airport! Totally useless in UK without an adapter 🤣

Talking of adapters it was a good job I took a variety of 4 as not one size fitted all

As I previously mentioned certain members of the group for nick names and they were;

John John

Repeat repeat

Colonel

Just saying

Red

Whippet

The upside of this tour was that we had a daily itinerary from John

Portage to and from the hotel rooms

Bottles of water on the coaches

Welcome drinks in most of the hotels

And some free time to explore

Possibly the only two negatives was sometimes the morning excursion went well past lunchtime and therefore you could have eaten your own arm by the time you got back to the hotel🤣 and it would have been nice to have some free time in Lima city centre

I still need to find out who is buried on the island on lake Nahuel Hapi

Why when we were at altitude and we took the lid off shower gel, body lotion etc did it leap out of the bottle

Want to Google where the plane went down in the Andes! In case I walked in their footsteps. Very unlikely I hear you say🤣

Georgina the guide in Bariloche was telling us the story of Erich Priebke who was involved in Italy’s worst war time atrocities and lived in Bariloche for 50 years before he was discovered teaching at a school there. On that note she also said there’s a story banded around that Hitler didn’t die as the result of a bomb but survived and lived in Argentina. It’s a myth that Argentinians are quick to dismiss as they don’t want to be associated with him

Finally, I returned home with 10 coca tea sachets, 12 coca sweets and some chewing gum all that are perfectly legal in Peru. Apparently not in the UK🤔

It was a brilliant holiday and well worth the travelling. The things we knew we were going to see, Machu Picchu, Christ the Redeemer and sugar loaf mountain were nice and were as expected. The wow moments were the unexpected things like going up the ski lift and seeing the views at the top, Iguassu falls and crossing from Chile to Argentina via three lakes

Just wonderful. Until my next adventure, bye bye 😁
