Day 7 of 16 – Lecce (the Florence of the South) and Otrano

So yesterday there was a bit of a kerfuffle as George went down a street that I don’t think was really meant for a coach! The locals were out filming and giving instructions.  In the end the owner of the car, that quite frankly I thought was going to end up badly damaged, came and moved it, just about😆

I was thinking if Mel had been driving the locals would have been ‘Oh mio Dio donne al volante!’ 😂

So Leece first…

Beautiful inside the theatre although maybe a bit scary sitting up higher🤦🏻‍♀️
I’m here!
The amphitheatre
My first ice cream this holiday and this is how to eat it.. NOT! It was lovely but I couldn’t eat it quick enough! It went all over the place!

We did have a lot of information overload today by the very informative guide.

So onto Otranto.. very picturesque. Really sorry…. but I can’t remember.  This was a monument to the people that lost their lives in a boat that capsized.  We have the same guide tomorrow so I’ll all her about that and get back to you!

The castle
The cathedral has one of the largest mosaics in Europe… as follows…
So… don’t judge me! In 1480 at the siege by the ottoman empire over 800 people were killed because they refused to convert from Christianity to Islam and their remains are now housed in the cathedral in Otrano. They were canonized in 2013
The end of a long day for Andrew!
